Jessica Kirzane (U of Chicago) came to Lafayette’s campus on Nov. 7 to speak about her fascinating translation of Miriam Karpilove’s novel about dating in the Jewish community in turn-of-the-century New York City. Students and faculty heard her reflect on the process of translating a text from the early 20th century, preserving its particular tone and milieu, while also updating it for a new readership in the me-too era. Kirzane also read a portion from the novel, which is forthcoming from Syracuse University Press. Details about her translation and order information available here.
