As the college prepares to celebrate the bicentennial of the Marquis de Lafayette, the program in Russian and East European Studies is bringing Emily Wang (U of Notre Dame) to campus to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Decembrist Revolt, which took place on Senate Square in St. Petersburg, Russia in December 14, 1825. Drawing on her recent book, Pushkin, the Decembrists, and Civic Sentimentalism (Wisconsin, 2023), Dr. Wang will guide us through the culture and ideas behind the first revolutionary action in Russian history, placing it in the greater context of the French and American revolutions. All are welcome. Image credit.
